Chef’s Choice: Blackwood Veneer & Dekton Trillium
I. Design Brief
Our client, a world-class chef, had a kitchen that was still in good condition but needed a redesign to better suit his culinary needs. As a professional, he required dedicated storage for utensils and cooking equipment, in addition to an easily accessible and low-maintenance space. The kitchen needed to accommodate two integrated fridges, one convection oven, one combi steam oven, and a pantry with doors that could remain open during work.
The kitchen’s size would remain unchanged, but getting power to the island was a challenge due to the unavailability of matching floor tiles.
The budget allocated for the kitchen renovation (Cabinetry & Benchtop) was approximately $45,000.
II. Design Statement
The kitchen was redesigned with premium custom-made cabinetry, emphasizing various-sized and deep drawers along with specialized inserts to organize utensils and cooking tools.
A sizable pantry with a sliding door that could be left open during peak preparation times, positioned next to two integrated fridges, provided ample workspace with minimal movement required. Another prep area situated between the sink and the hotplate created two workstations for assistants. All overhead cabinets were equipped with Blum Aventos electric doors, allowing them to stay open during busy kitchen moments.
To soften the all-white finish and connect the kitchen with the family area and existing furnishings, we incorporated a floating Blackwood timber breakfast bar and timber accents.
To overcome missing floor tiles, we crafted and laid matching floorboards in the necessary area, enabling us to supply power to the island. Although the kitchen remained in its original footprint, our redesign resulted in increased storage and countertop space.
The total cost for the supply and installation of the kitchen, excluding appliances, was around $45,000.
III. Project Outcome
CK successfully delivered a contemporary kitchen that harmoniously blended with the existing furniture’s colour scheme. We meticulously attended to every design detail, creating a kitchen that not only met but exceeded the owner’s expectations in terms of storage and functionality.
